A Return to Godliness - Part 2

In my previous blog, I wrote on the need for the United States of America as a whole to return to Godliness. If we are going to do this there must be a concerted effort across denominational lines to once again reclaim our Godly heritage. I am reminded of the year 1517 when a young man reached the point in his life when he had to have more than just mere religion. With strong convictions and the power of the Holy Spirit, Martin Luther walked to Wittenberg Church and nailed the now famous ninety-five theses on the front door. This gave reason for much debate within the church and caused many to leave religion and step into a real relationship with Christ Jesus. This action, along with many unknown leaders taking a stand, ushered in a reformation that would ultimately bring the gospel of Jesus into a living breathing life style. Much like the year 1517 we are in need of leaders to stand up not in front of a T.V. camera and tell everyone how to live, but leaders that will show everyone how to live.

In this present year we have seen several popular ministers fall. My heart is not to criticize or judge these ministers, but rather to shout to the thousands of ministers across this land to stand up and be available for God to use you. We desperately need real leaders to lead a growing army and take back what the enemy has tried to destroy, which is our Godly heritage.

Many people will say that they are not qualified to lead in the Lord’s army due to their lack of experience or lack of credentials. Looking at Judges 6:15 we see that Gideon had these same feelings. Many of us today disqualify ourselves because of our lack of experience, education, and lack of prominence. We must come to the place where we recognize that God is not looking for ability, but availability. He has all the ability; He just needs someone willing to step up and be available. 1 Corinthians 1:26-28 explains this further and should encourage those potential leaders.

Once a leader steps into his God given leadership role then he must be cognizant of his responsibility. In Judges 6:25 we find Gideon getting his household in order. As leaders we must first be credible with our family. This means being real in front of our families and not walking as a hypocrite. The one thing that breaks my heart today is to see ministers put their ministries ahead of their wife and children. This will ultimately lead to divorce. I understand this all too well because I used to put ministry before my family. How do we think that we as leaders can preach on family if ours is going to hell in a hand basket?  If we want to take back our heritage the mighty men must rise up and not only declare that “as for me and my house we will serve the Lord”, but live it out. When asked the question what would he have done differently? Billy Graham responded, “I would read the Bible more, pray more, stay at home with my family.
